Emerging Fashion Trends for Fall/Winter 2009 (Women):

1) Over-the-Knee/Thigh-High Boots:

Over-the-knee boots are the must-have item for Fall 2009; but those daring enough will find the tops of their boots creeping up even higher with thigh-high boots also making it mainstream. From elegant suedes to darkly futuristic wound-and-bound leathers, the options are many and various. To keep your footwear saying sexy in the 'right' way, go for boots of this nature in genuine leather or suede with wool or shearling. Great color choices are classic black, brown, and various neutrals.

2) Capes, Caplets & Cloaks :

It's been quite some time since the cape has been a major fashion staple. In Autumn (Fall) / Winter 2009 the cape, in it's various forms, will make it to major trend status as many big names of the fashion design world create their own unique revivals. You can wear these outerwear pieces in just about any environment, from casual to black-tie, it really all depends on the material and style that of the cape, caplet, cloak, or wrap.

Cape/Capelet: A cape, in the broader sense, is pretty much any form of outerwear that opens at the front, and has no sleeves - usually with slits for the arms instead. Capelets are any type of short cape that covers the shoulders.

Cloak: A cloak is similar to a cape only generally longer - typically mid-calf but often as long as ankle-length. Cloaks tend to be completely sleeveless; rather wraping around as an outerwear garment.

Shawls, Stoles & Wraps: These are usually loosely-worn or wrapped around the shoulders, usually for evening wear. Traditionally they've been made from luxurious fabrics like silk, brocade, or fur.

Panchos: A poncho is usually a closed square of fabric with a hole for one's head to go through.

3) Ripped Tights & Stockings:

Our wartime female counterparts would never have imagined this day; where laddered stockings are not only acceptable, but fashionable. The ripped stocking trend is a close cousin of the ripped denim trend from Spring/Summer 2009, which are both a steps towards a new era of neo-Grunge. Wear this trend with conviction! Wearing a crisp, corporate skirt-suit and a pair of stockings with a little ladder or two just looks like an unfortunate run-in with a sharp fingernail. On the other hand, shredded tights with studded boots and a black mini screams fashion-forwards neo-grunge chic.
